Buttermilk Biscuits

2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
6 tbsp shortening
1 cup buttermilk


1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and soda into large mixing bowl.
2. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.
3. Make a well in the center of the dough and pour in buttermilk all at once.
4. Stir until all is mixed and dough easily leaves the bowl.
5. Place dough on lightly floured board and knead for 15 turns.
6. Roll out to desired thickness: 3/8 for crusty biscuits and a little over 1/2 for fluffy biscuits
