Green Beans and Ham Hocks

Ingredients:

1 pound fresh green beans
1 large onion, sliced
1/4 pound cooked ham or 1 large ham hock
2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
1 clove garlic, minced


Preparation:

Break beans in short pieces, removing any strings. Wash thoroughly. Place ham, beans and all other ingredients in a large saucepan. Simmer until beans are tender. Add small can of asparagus tips. Cook 10 minutes longer. If ham hock is used instead of cooked ham, cover hock in large pot with water and cook until tender. Add beans and continue as directed except omit the salt.
