1 c. cooked or canned pumpkin or squash
1/3 c. water
2 eggs
1/3 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips


In large bowl, mix sugar, shortening, and eggs. Add pumpkin and stir well. Slowly mix in dry ingredients, about 1/3 at a time, mixing well until smooth. Add chocolate chips and mix well. Pour into greased pan and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees or until bread tests done. Let cool for about 5-10 minutes. Remove from pan while still warm. Serve.
